A luxury apartment and retail building is proposed on the border of Harbor East and Little Italy. The building will replace the controversial and now-shuttered former Milan restaurant on the corner of Eastern Avenue and Exeter Street.
The design of the building is broken up into a retail ‘base’ and a residential ‘body’ with a crowning story clad in metal. The facade of the ‘body’ of the building is activated in three dimensions with projecting bay windows and balconies and is clad in brick, metal, and glass. The massing of the building relates to the 70-foot tall Exeter building directly across Eastern Avenue and can be read in a small way as a gesture toward connecting the last decade of development in Harbor East that has largely passed by Little Italy.
